KNÄTOFS is run by Anna Melkersson and Maria Eld. The idea of KNÄTOFS was
born when Anna visited Maria in Bolivia, where Maria was working as an aid
worker doing workshops together with artisans. The artisans who assisted
Marias workshops are today producing the knitted alpaca garments of KNÄTOFS.
In this way, KNÄTOFS has a close and near cooperation with the people who
produces the garments and can therefor guarantee that the saleries are fair
and the animals are treated well. Part of KNÄTOFS' profit goes to the financing
of a fair trade certification of the alpaca yarn.
KNÄTOFS autumn/winter 2009 presents El Alto - A colourful collection of
knitwear made of 100% alpacka wool. Inspired by Bolivian culture and Swedish
nature, the collection is a close collaboration between Knätofs in Gothenburg,
Sweden, and craftspeople in El Alto, Bolivia. Fair, playful and unisex pervades
  Knätofs adult and children clothes.

  Alpaca wool
The knitted garments of KNÄTOFS are made of 100% alpaca wool from Bolivia.
The alpaca is a camelid, related to the camel. It is also related to the lama and
lives in the mountains of the Andian region of South america. The alpaca comes
in a wide range of natural colours, from white to black, brown and grey tones.
The fibers of the alpaca wool are long and hollow wich makes the wool soft,
warm and long lasting. Garments that are knitted in alpaca wool have similar
qualities as silk. It cools when you are hot and keep you warm when it’s cold.

  Washing recommendations
KNÄTOFS recommends washing the garments rarely. The best way to take care
of your garments is to regularely leave it outdoor, as wool has a unique
self-washing-quality. When needed you can wash the alpaca garment by hand
with shampoo and leave to dry flat. It is also possible to wash the garment in
the washing machine if you have a special wool programme and washing liquid
  for wool.
